Coniston Coppermines Waterfall (Including Parking & GPX File)

Please remember that all the natural swim spots in the Lake District are dangerous, wild places. Visit them at your own risk. Please also remember to respect these places and others using them, and take any rubbish away with you and leave no trace.

The Coniston Coppermines waterfall is one of the most magical waterfalls and pools in the whole of the Lake District. A secret until recently it has been spread widely on social media and is now a popular spot for wild swimmers. It’s quite a small pool with very little places to stand/sit so not suitable for large groups. There is also quite a technical scramble down into the gorge which isn’t particularly suitable for children or animals!

Where to park for Coniston Coppermines waterfall?

At the time of writing this, the best place to park when hiking to the Coppermines waterfall is the tourist information centre carpark in the center of Coniston.

How to find Coniston Coppermines waterfall?

Finding the falls is fairly straightforward. Upon leaving the carpark take a left and cross the bridge before taking a right and heading up the little single track road to the right of the Coppermines Cottages building. From here follow the road until you see a turning to the right and a sign for Coniston Old Man & Levers Water.

Once you take the right turn simply follow the track. You’ll noticeably start to ascend and after a few hundred meters will see a large concrete bridge crossing the river on your right. Cross the bridge and continue following the river using the road.

This road leads all the way to the YHA. Just before reaching the YHA look out a small bridge crossing the stream on your right.

Cross this bridge and then follow the river until you see the top of the falls. From this find the semi-well-trod scramble down into the gorge and then pick your way through to the bottom of the falls.
