Canyon Of Swans (Including Parking & GPX File

Please remember that all the natural swim spots in the Lake District are dangerous, wild places. Visit them at your own risk. Please also remember to respect these places and others using them, and take any rubbish away with you and leave no trace.

The Canyon of Swans is a beautiful little secluded gorge and pool hidden away deep in the Stonethwaite valley. The canyon is found upstream from Black Moss Pot & Galleny Force.

Where to park for the Canyon of Swans?

The best place to part is Stonethwaite. There’s a few parking spaces in the village but these get taken early and your best bet is to make use of the on-road parking here.

How to find the Canyon of Swans?

Finding the canyon is fairly straightforward. If you’re able to park in Stonethwaite then you just need to head through the village towards the campsite. There’s a decent farm track that leads right through the site before going through a gate and turning into more of a standard path.

Just follow this as it winds its way up the valley and you’ll start to hear the noise of Galleny Force after just a couple of minutes walking. From here continue walking up the valley, following the main path that runs parallel with the river for roughly 4km. You should spot a bridge across the river and the canyon is just downstream from here.
